2006 Montvalley Chardonnay

Description

Price:

$359

Wine Club Members:

$287

Quantity:

Case - 12x 750ml bottles ($29.99 p/bottle)

Tasting Notes:

When this wine was young we said “all the hallmarks for a beautiful old age are there. This wine has ‘good bones’ with acid, length, balance and lots of layered flavor”. We were right. This wine probably has more to offer with cellaring for another 2-3 years but it also drinks brilliantly now.

Colour:

Green/gold

Nose:

There is a touch of butterscotch, but the oak is not over-riding. Winemakers use the term “complex” a little loosely sometimes. Here it is well-demonstrated as the perfect descriptor.

Palate:

Rich but elegant, with integrated caramel and evidence of good French oak barrels edged with lime.

Alcohol:

13.3%

James Halliday rated 88 out of 100 (2008 Wine Companion)
